Duodenal Switch in New Brunswick

By Kimberly D.

There is currently one surgeon who performs Duodenal Switch in New Brunswick.

In March of 2008, the New Brunswick Medicare process changed in that Medicare no longer needs to approve weight loss surgery. You have to get a referral for weight loss surgery from your family physician to a bariatric surgeon. The surgeon will set up a consultation appointment, and then it is up to the surgeon to approve you for surgery.

The New Brunswick DS surgeon is Marc E. Savoie MD, and his practice is in Bathurst, NB. He also performs Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG). Dr. Savoie will start performing surgeries in early 2009 as soon he sets up his surgical team, and he performs surgery at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, NB. His contact information is: 506-548-9960 (phone number) and 506-548-1898 (fax number). DS Facts is providing this for informational purposes only; it is up to you to research your surgeon's qualifications.

In the Meantime
There are things you can do while you are waiting to hear from your surgeon to speed up the process for booking surgery. Find out about pre-op testing from your surgeon's office. You may have to have a sleep test done. Start that process right away; it can take a while to book and there is a long processing time for results. Remember to ask to be put on the cancellation list.
